How Segways Work

How Segway HTs work:

Segway HTs can self-balance because of a technology called "Dynamic Stabilization". Dynamjic Stabilization works in much the same way your own sense of balance does. Where you have an inner ear, eyes, muscles, and a brain to keep you balanced, the Segway HT has solid-state gyroscopes, tilt sensors, high-speed microprocessors and powerful electric motors performing to keep it balanced. Working in concert, these extensively tested and redundant systems sense your center of gravity, instantaneously assess the information and make minute adjustments one hundred times a second! Segway HTs balance whether you're traveling at 10 mph, carrying a heavy load, slowly maneuvering in tight spaces or standing perfectly still.

Lean forward... go forward.

The Segway HT intuitively balances the way humans do - moving forward and backward responding to changes in your body's position. There is no accelerator and no brakes. Lean forward and you move forward. Straighten up and you stop. Lean back and you move back. Segway Tours of Houston exclusively uses the "Lean Steer" technology Segways. Turning the Segway HT is accomplished by moving the handle in the direction you wish to turn. Riding a Segway HT is somewhat like skiing on dry land.

Segway HTs are easy to use. After a brief orientation and some practice, you'll be ready to experience Houston's many sites in comfort and with ease. You will be able to see more, go to more sites and experience more of Houston on a Segway HT than you could in twice the amount of time if you walked the same path.
